Academic All-MIAA Teams for 2006-07 released
A total of 188 student-athletes earn honors for success
in academics and athletics
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics
Association is proud to salute success on the field of play as
well as the classroom with the release of the 2006-07 Academic
All-MIAA Team.
A total of 188 student-athletes -- 61 men and 127 women --
are being recognized in this program, introduced in 1998 by MIAA
commissioner Ralph McFillen. That is up from 181 last year, and
from 168 in 2004-05 -- the last time the conference had 10 member
institutions.
To earn this distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative
3.50 grade-point average in two terms of attendance at the nominating
institution, and earned All-MIAA honors in their sport over the
past season.
In the sports of baseball, basketball, football, women's soccer,
softball, tennis and volleyball, the coaches vote for All-MIAA.
First-team, second-team and honorable mentions are eligible for
Academic All-MIAA recognition.
In golf, a points system based on finishes in the five conference-sanctioned
events is utilized, with the top 10 in points scored earning All-MIAA.
In track and field, the top six finishers in each individual
event, along with the top three relay-event finishers, are recognized
as All-MIAA, while the top 10 finishers in cross country earn
All-MIAA honors.
Student-athletes at MIAA schools competing in sports which
the conference does not sponsor a championship and meeting the
academic requirements are eligible for Academic All-MIAA honors
by either earning All-District/Region honors in a team sport,
or by qualifying for their national championship in an individual
event.
